'Tis the season
We are slowly but surely entering the comic fair season!
This year I will be attending Winchester Comic Fair on October 21st for its second edition. It’s a small, cosy fair, and I’m happy to be debuting there Salmorejo, my new travel zine. I will also bring prints, stickers, comics and a special little something: stop by my table as I’ll be handing out some promotional bookmarks of my new webcomic.
Later, on November 11th and 12th, I’ll go to what’s probably my favourite event of the year: the always wonderful Thought Bubble. Definitely not as intimate as Winchester, but incredibly fun. Come say hi if you are in the Leeds area.
Salmorejo
Last year I took a trip with some friends to Seville and Cadiz, my hometown. It was a strange time and I started to document the whole thing in my sketchbook. This might seem ordinary to you, but to me it wasn’t: I’m an obnoxious perfectionist and I have high standards when it comes to presenting my drawings. There are many, many projects that didn’t see the light of day because I just couldn’t find the perfect line weight or the optimal style. Yes, I know how it sounds and yes, I know nobody cares but me… but boy, do I care! So simply drawing without any previous sketch or even the slight idea of what I was going to say next was liberating.
Another reason why this diary was a first for me is that I’d always wanted to make a travel journal. And I had tried: I’ve gone on trips, taken a million notes and sketches, made it my absolute priority on my list of projects, and abandoned the idea again and again. But then, after trying so hard (and failing even harder) so many times, I made one without even noticing that I was doing one! I know what you are thinking: you are not only a bit cu-cu, you are also not particularly sharp. I couldn’t agree more.
I posted this journal on social media but the printed version includes a prologue and epilogue, a nice pic and a few details that I love. It will be available on my ETSY later this year.
